HTB Happenings
happy sunday friends! for me, this week was filled with last-minute to-dos and little dates as aj got ready to head back to boston...we're now getting back into the groove of long-distance, but this time is different...there's a light at the end of the tunnel! and admittedly, the blow of him leaving was softened just a little by the fact that i have to-do list as long as my arm and i can throw myself into completing it! starting with cleaning my atrocity of a room...
it's raining ice outside today here in pa, so if you're curled up on a couch like i'm planning on being this afternoon, here's what you might have missed on htb this week:
happenings:
+ he's back in boston! and we're in the home stretch...seven months til we end this long distance thing for good!
+ i basically already have my wedding invitations designed, but i still ordered free samples, because i'm only planning to be a bride once and you know i'm gonna milk it for all it's worth.
+ my aunt and uncle came over for dinner last night and we played scrabble. i kicked everyone's tush.
+ i started whole30 yesterday! and hit the gym, ya know #sweatingforthewedding and all...if you've done whole30, i want to hear about your experience!
in case you missed it:
+ i talked about my morning routine and how i'm a total tea-lover!
+ you have to read this hilarious marriage advice from 1913!
+ the second part of our love story was up this week...i promise the proposal is coming!
+ i talked about being grateful for the little things, like parking spaces!

The Best of 2014
what a year 2014 has been! as i was going through my posts from this year, i realized a few things. in 2014, heavens to betsy saw more growth than ever before! more readers, more page views, more posts, more engagement. thank you so so much for that. it's incredibly humbling to realize how much this little blog has blossomed in the past twelve months, and even moreso, how many awesome friends i've gained through the blogging world!
as we celebrate the very last day of this year, and look forward toward 2015, i thought i'd leave you with a round-up of my favorite (and in my opinion, the best) posts of 2014. enjoy!
arm knitting 101 // this post was a quick video tutorial that i put together all about arm knitting! arm knitting is by far one of the quickest ways to knit a cozy, bulky scarf. you can sit down with some yarn and have a whole scarf finished 60-90 minutes later! i gave a bunch of these scarves as christmas gifts this year and they were very well-loved!
blog with purpose // this post is a great stop for some tips on how to create and engage a community through your blog. you all know how much i believe in the blogging community...it's why i blog! so here are five tips that can help you get out of your little hole in the blogging world and make some real, honest-to-goodness friends!
learning to lead // as i stepped into a few leadership positions this year, i learned a lot about what good leadership is. this post offered a few thoughts on the type of leader i want to be, the marks of a true leader, and an example of biblical leadership.
how to love running // i have always wanted to be a runner, but it wasn't until last spring that i truly learned to love it. in this post, i shared 7 tips for turning this often-hated workout into something you crave!
how to make money blogging // this post lays out a few ways that you can make money blogging. it breaks down things like affiliate programs, media networks, and blog sponsorships, and gives some general tips on how to get started and how to be successful!
the trouble with mary and martha // after doing she reads truth's hospitality study this fall, i began to look at the concept of hospitality in a way i never had before. i've always considered myself to be a martha, and never saw the real danger in that until a few months ago. this post unpacks the trouble with being a martha and what true hospitality looks like.
a few of my favorite drugstore mascaras // calling all mascara addicts! here's a round up of a few of my favorite drugstore mascaras! and don't miss the comment section of this post from even more suggestions from readers!
open your bible // i'm not exactly shy about the fact that i am terrible when it comes to a devotional routine. but as i started being more intentional about it this year, i found that these tips helped me to set aside time with jesus on a regular basis.
why you shouldn't cut yourself short by undercharging // this one is for all the freelancers! when you do freelance work, it is so so easy to undercharge for your services. but here are a few reasons why you shouldn't undercharge as well as a few ways to stop undercharging!
worship while you work it // i got into the habit of listening to worship music while i ran early last summer and it helped transform my workouts into more intentional time spent with the lord. so i put together a playlist of upbeat worship songs for you to listen to while you work out!
a few other exciting things that happened on heavens to betsy this year:
+ the launch of the peony project
+ the opening on heavens to betsy handmade
+ hit over 1,000 followers on bloglovin'
+ all-time high of over 28,600 pageviews/month
+ became a member of the influence network
if you're not currently following along, you can find me here:
am i missing anything? was there a post on heavens to betsy this year that you loved but that didn't make this list?

January Favorites
So, I'm a few days late. Can you believe we're already four days into February? [holy cow.]
January was a great month on Heavens to Betsy! This little blog grew so much over the past year. Just last January I celebrated my 100th follower! And now this little space is over double that amount. So thank YOU, dear reader!
But enough about that...on to a recap of favorite posts from January!

AJ and I went to the PA State Farm Show in the beginning of the month. It was so fun to see all of the handmade foods and goods, and also see some farm animals and get to treat ourselves to a delicious milkshake.
I shared my 5 Favorite Photo Apps. Some you may know, others may be new!
During my first week of student teaching, I wrote about praying hard.
We took some photos as a Christmas present for AJ's mom, and I blogged some of that shoot last month!
I shared 5 tips for combatting the winter blues, because we all know that winter, with it's chill and bland colors and lack of sunlight can lead to feeling a little blue. [at least for me anyway!]

December Favorites
Can you believe December is already over? It feels like it came and went SO fast...I still can't believe that the holidays are over!
Today I'll be recapping some of my favorite posts from last month. December was an exciting month here on Heavens to Betsy. I rolled out (another) new blog design. Sometimes I just get fickle. But this one is here to stay, I think. I also started to focus my content and tried to write more quality, photo-rich, and well-put-together posts! Some of these changes have been subtle, some a little more obvious, like the addition of a bunch of topics in my menu bar (check them out...they have thumbnails of different posts in each category!). I'm pretty proud of that last one.
So here are some of my favorite posts from December!
I started the month with a room tour of my bedroom. I'll have to do another one of these soon, as AJ and I are going to paint and redo my room next week (eeeep!).
Then I gave you a little peek at my vinyl collection. I started collecting records when I got my record player in September. It's one of my new favorite collections!
I gave some tips on how to arrange bookshelves, after I spent a day reorganizing and purging myself of books.
I shared five tips for surviving finals week while I was heading into mine. I like to think these apply to any stressful time, though.
Before Christmas, I posted a DIY for Yarn-Wrapped Candles. Super easy. Super fast. Super cheap. It's the perfect craft. (and it looks good too!)
And finally, I posted a DIY for Homemade Soy Candles. This is my favorite DIY to date, mostly because these look (and smell) so good! I made them for all of my aunts/grandmothers/my mom, and they loved them. And they were fairly cheap to make, too!
And that was December! Stay tuned for lots of fun posts in January!
